ভাবনা, প্রবণতা আর কাল্পনিক বিষয় সামলানোর ভাষা — সঠিক শব্দ না থাকলেও কথোপকথন চালিয়ে যাওয়ার উপায়।
B2-এ আপনি নিজের কাজ আর জীবন নিয়ে আলোচনা করতে পারেন। পরের ধাপ হলো সেই বিষয়গুলো সামলানো যেগুলোর প্রস্তুতি আপনি নেননি: নীতিশাস্ত্র, প্রবণতা, কাল্পনিক বিষয় — যা কিছু পরীক্ষা আর আসল আলোচনা আপনার দিকে ছুড়ে দেয়।
প্রবণতা আর পরিবর্তনের কথা বলা
- There's been a growing tendency towards remote work.
- The number of applicants has risen sharply / fallen steadily.
- This is increasingly common.
- Attitudes have shifted considerably.
দরকারি জোড়া: rise / fall, increase / decrease, sharply / gradually / steadily।
লক্ষ্য করুন বিশেষ্য-ক্রিয়ার সেই ভাগ যেটি মানুষকে গুলিয়ে দেয়: prices rose (ক্রিয়া, কোনো object নেই) কিন্তু a rise in prices (বিশেষ্য)। আর trend towards নেয়: a trend towards shorter contracts।
কারণ আর ফলাফলের কথা বলা
- This has led to a shortage of housing.
- One consequence of this is...
- It's largely due to the cost of energy.
- This contributes to the problem, but isn't the only factor.
- The underlying cause is... · This is a symptom rather than a cause.
কাল্পনিক বিষয় আর অনুমান
- If governments were to act now, the effect would be significant.
- It's conceivable that prices will stabilise.
- That would depend on how quickly it's implemented.
- In theory, yes — in practice, it's harder.
- Suppose the funding disappeared — what then?
একটি যুক্তি ভারসাম্যপূর্ণ করা
পরীক্ষক আর সহকর্মী উভয়ই নিশ্চিততার চেয়ে ভারসাম্যকে মূল্য দেন।

- While there are clear benefits, there are also risks.
- It depends largely on the context.

নিরাপদে সাধারণীকরণ করা
বিমূর্ত আলোচনায় দল নিয়ে বক্তব্যের দরকার হয়, আর শর্তহীন বক্তব্য ভেঙে দেওয়া সহজ। এগুলো আপনাকে বেশি দাবি না করেই সাধারণীকরণ করতে দেয়:
- On the whole, people prefer… · By and large, this holds.
- As a rule, smaller firms are more flexible.
- There are exceptions, but the pattern is clear.
- This is typically the case in urban areas.
একটি লম্বা উত্তর সাজানো
একটি অপ্রস্তুত বিষয় সহজ হয় যদি আপনি বিষয়বস্তু জানার আগেই তার কাঠামো জেনে নেন:
- একে গড়ুন। There are really two questions here — whether it works, and whether it's fair.

প্যারাফ্রেজিং: বাঁচার দক্ষতা
আপনার কাছে সবসময় শব্দটি থাকবে না। সাবলীল বক্তা থামার বদলে অভাবের চারপাশে কথা বলেন।
- It's a kind of... — It's a kind of tax on imports.
- It's the thing you use to... — It's the thing you use to measure pressure.
- It's similar to X, but...
- I can't think of the word, but it's when...
এটি কোনো ব্যর্থতা নয়। ইতস্তত করা আর বর্ণনা করা চুপ থাকা বা ভাষা বদলানোর চেয়ে অনেক ভালো।
নিজের জন্য সময় কেনা
- That's an interesting question.
- Let me think about that for a second.
- I suppose it depends on...
মূলভাষী বক্তারা এগুলো নিয়মিত ব্যবহার করেন। এগুলো স্বাভাবিক লাগে, এড়িয়ে যাওয়া লাগে না।
কারও আপনার কাছ থেকে বিষয়ে দক্ষতা আশা নেই। শহর-পরিকল্পনা নিয়ে জিজ্ঞেস করা পরীক্ষক শহর-পরিকল্পনা পরখ করছেন না; তারা দেখছেন আপনি কি ইংরেজিতে একটি মতামত সাজাতে পারেন, কোনো কথা মানতে পারেন আর অনুমান করতে পারেন। I don't know much about this, but I'd imagine… বলা আর তারপর এক মিনিট কথা বলা নির্ভুল চুপ থাকার চেয়ে অনেক ভালো নম্বর আনে।
একটি অপ্রস্তুত প্রশ্ন, সামলানো
A: Should city centres be closed to cars?
B: That's an interesting question. There are two things there, really — whether it works, and whether it's fair. On the whole, the cities that have tried it have seen air quality improve. That said, it clearly disadvantages people who can't easily use public transport. On balance I'd support it, if the alternatives were in place first.
