Денежная лексика делится на три части: разговор о цене, сами платежи и общение с банком. За границей все три всплывают быстро.

О цене

• How much does it cost? / How much is it?
• It costs £40.
• That's good value. (стоит своих денег)
• It's a bargain. (гораздо дешевле ожидаемого)
• It's a rip-off. (грабёж — неформально и довольно резко)
• I can't afford it.
• We're on a tight budget.

Cheap и inexpensive: cheap часто намекает и на низкое качество, а inexpensive и affordable — нет.

Оплата

• Can I pay by card? / in cash / by bank transfer
• Do you take contactless?
• Could I have a receipt, please?
• Is service included?
• Let's split the bill. (разделить поровну)
• I'll get this. / It's on me. (я плачу за всех)

Глаголы, которые путают

• spend money on something: I spent £50 on books.
• pay for something: I paid for the meal.
• cost — подлежащее сама вещь: The meal cost £50.
• lend — дать / borrow — взять: Can you lend me £10? / Can I borrow £10?
• save — откладывать / save up for — копить на что-то
• owe — быть должным: I owe you £20.

❌ I paid the meal. → ✅ I paid for the meal. ❌ I spent £50 for books. → ✅ I spent £50 on books.
