Yol tarifi, İngilizcede yapacağınız ilk gerçek konuşmalardan biridir, ve kendi dilbilgisine sahiptir: emir kipi.

Özneyi düşürün ve yalın fiili kullanın.

• Go straight on.
• Don't take the first exit. (olumsuz: don't + fiil)

Bu, Türkçe emir kipine benzer — Türkçe de dön, git derken özneyi düşürür ve fiil kökünü kullanır. Farklı olan, İngilizcenin bir çekim eki değil ayrı bir kelime (don't) ile olumsuzlanmasıdır.
