مفردات الشاشات والحسابات والاتصال — ومعها الأفعال التي تُوصف بها الأعطال.
مفردات التقنية تتغير بسرعة، لكن نواتها الثابتة تغطي كل موقف يومي تقريبًا، والأفعال — وكلها تقريبًا أفعال مركّبة — أهم هنا من الأسماء.

كلمتان تستحقان التمييز: hardware الجهاز المادي، وsoftware ما يعمل عليه. وApp برنامج على الهاتف، وprogram الكلمة الأقدم، «المكتبية».
الأفعال التي يقوم عليها كل شيء
- turn on / off · switch on / off — التشغيل والإطفاء
- plug in / unplug — التوصيل المادي
- charge — My phone's charging. / The battery's dead.
- log in / log out — الحسابات (وكذلك sign in / sign out)
- download / upload — تنزيل / رفع
- install / uninstall / update
- back up — عمل نسخة احتياطية
- restart / reboot — العلاج الأول لكل شيء
- crash / freeze — يتوقف فجأة / يتجمّد
افتحوا وأغلقوا الجهاز؟ العربية تقول «افتح الكمبيوتر» و«سكّر الجوال» و«افتح الضوء»، فيخرج open the computer وclose the light. بالإنجليزية open the laptop تعني رفع غطائه فقط. للتشغيل والإطفاء: turn on وturn off — Turn on the light. · Turn off your phone. أما open وclose فللتطبيقات والملفات والنوافذ: open the app، close the tab.

لاحظوا: الصفحة scroll down، والشاشة swipe left؛ وcopy تكون to the clipboard، ثم paste into a document.

هذه اليوم من أنفع المجموعات في الموضوع كله، وكل عبارة فيها ثابتة:

حين لا يعمل شيء
- It's not responding.
- It's frozen.
- The app keeps crashing.
- It won't connect. (won't — يرفض)
- I'm getting an error message.
- Have you tried turning it off and on again?
«It won't start» هي الطريقة الطبيعية لقول إن الجهاز يرفض العمل: won't هنا تعني الرفض، لا المستقبل.
كيف تصفون المشكلة بدقة
غامض: It doesn't work. أفضل: It turns on, but the screen stays black.
ذكر ما يعمل هو أسرع طريق لتضييق المشكلة، وفي الحديث التقني هو الفرق بين بلاغ مفيد وبلاغ عديم الفائدة.
ثلاثة أسئلة يؤول إليها كل حديث مع الدعم الفني:
- What exactly happens? — It shows an error message saying "connection refused".
- When did it start? — After the update on Tuesday.
- What have you tried? — I've restarted it and reinstalled the app.
أبلغوا عن الملاحظة لا عن الاستنتاج. The Wi-Fi's broken تشخيص، وهو خاطئ عادةً. أما My laptop connects but my phone doesn't فملاحظة، وهي تشير مباشرة إلى السبب الحقيقي.
مكالمة مع الدعم الفني
A: What seems to be the trouble?
B: The app keeps crashing when I try to log in. It started after the update.
A: Have you tried reinstalling it?
B: I have. It opens fine, but it freezes on the password screen.
A: Right — sorry, you're breaking up a bit. Could you send me a screenshot of the error message?
