सवाल पूछने, मदद माँगने और यह जाँचने के लिए कि आप समझे या नहीं — रूखे लगे बिना — सरल, विनम्र वाक्यांश।
अंग्रेज़ी की विनम्रता खास शब्दों से कम और वाक्य के ढाँचे से ज़्यादा तय होती है। एक सीधा आदेश रूखा लगता है; एक सवाल विनम्र लगता है। कुछ ढाँचे सीख लें और आप हमेशा दोस्ताना सुनाई देंगे।
जादुई ढाँचा: Could you...?
- Could you help me, please?
- Could you repeat that, please?
- Could you speak more slowly, please?

विनम्रता की सीढ़ी
अनुरोध जितना लंबा होगा, उतना ही विनम्र लगेगा। ये सभी एक ही बात कहते हैं:

- Can I have a coffee, please?

अनुमति माँगना

आखिरी वाले के जवाब से सावधान रहें। Do you mind पूछता है कि क्या कोई चीज़ आपको परेशान करती है, इसलिए:
- Do you mind if I sit here? — No, not at all. = कृपया बैठिए ✅
- Yes = मुझे आपत्ति है 🚫
ज़्यादातर वक्ता Of course not या Go ahead कहकर इस उलझन से बच जाते हैं।

जब आप समझ न पाएँ
कभी दिखावा न करें। ये वाक्यांश बिल्कुल सामान्य और विनम्र हैं:
- Sorry, I don't understand.
- Could you repeat that, please?
- Could you say that again, more slowly?
- How do you spell that?
- What does "delayed" mean?
धन्यवाद कहना
- Thank you. / Thanks.
- Thanks a lot. / Thank you very much.
और जवाब: You're welcome. या बस No problem.
प्रश्नचिह्न ही इसे विनम्र बनाता है। अंग्रेज़ी में कोई विनम्र क्रिया-रूप नहीं है — इसमें विनम्र ढाँचे हैं। एक बयान एक आदेश है; एक सवाल दूसरे व्यक्ति को "ना" कहने की गुंजाइश देता है। इसीलिए Could you…? हर जगह काम करता है, और इसीलिए किसी आदेश में सिर्फ़ please जोड़ना उसे पूरी तरह नहीं बचाता।

Sorry to bother you इसे खोलता है, would you mind + -ing अनुरोध बनाता है, possibly समय-सीमा को नरम करता है — और आखिर में धन्यवाद अपेक्षित है, वैकल्पिक नहीं।
