अपनी पढ़ाई, काम के इतिहास और कौशलों के बारे में साफ़-साफ़ कैसे बात करें — सही काल के साथ।
चाहे किसी इंटरव्यू में हो, नेटवर्किंग की बातचीत में हो, या पहली मुलाक़ात में — अपने अतीत के बारे में बताना एक तय हिस्सा है। असली मुश्किल शब्दावली नहीं है — यह काल पर नियंत्रण है।
काल के वे नियम जो मायने रखते हैं
Past simple — ख़त्म हो चुकी नौकरियाँ और पढ़ाई:
- I worked at Siemens for three years. (अब नहीं करता)
- I studied economics in Warsaw.
Present perfect — अभी तक का अनुभव, या ऐसी नौकरी जो अब भी है:
- I've worked in logistics for five years. (अब भी सच है)
- I've managed teams of up to ten people. (अनुभव, कोई खास समय नहीं)
Present simple — आपकी मौजूदा भूमिका:
- I work as a project manager.
- I'm responsible for the reporting side.
क्लासिक गलती है मौजूदा नौकरी के लिए past simple इस्तेमाल करना: ❌ I worked here since 2022. → ✅ I've worked here since 2022.
For और since
- for + एक समय-अवधि: for three years, for six months
- since + एक शुरुआती बिंदु: since 2022, since March
उपयोगी वाक्यांश

आपने असल में क्या हासिल किया यह बताना
सबसे आम कमज़ोरी व्याकरण नहीं है — यह नतीजों की बजाय ज़िम्मेदारियाँ बताना है। तुलना करें:

पैटर्न है: एक मज़बूत क्रिया + आपने क्या किया + एक संख्या। एक अनुमानित संख्या भी वाक्य के असर को बदल देती है।
उपयोगी क्रियाएँ: led, built, cut, improved, launched, introduced, handled, coordinated, trained, resolved।
एक छोटे जवाब को विस्तार से बताना
इंटरव्यू लेने वाले आमतौर पर चार हिस्सों वाला जवाब चाहते हैं, एक-पंक्ति वाला नहीं:
- स्थिति — We had a backlog of about 300 tickets.
- काम — I was asked to get it under control.
- कार्रवाई — I introduced a triage system and trained two colleagues on it.
- नतीजा — We cleared it in six weeks and it hasn't built up since.
B1 पर भी यह ढाँचा काम करता है, क्योंकि हर हिस्सा एक छोटा वाक्य है।
अपने स्तर के बारे में ईमानदार होना
ज़्यादा दावा करना जल्दी पकड़ा जाता है, और कम दावा करना आपको नौकरी से हाथ धोने पर मजबूर कर सकता है। अंग्रेज़ी में एक इस्तेमाल किया जा सकने वाला बीच का रास्ता है:
- I'm confident with Excel. (मैं इसे अच्छी तरह इस्तेमाल करता हूँ)
- I'm familiar with SQL. (मैं इसे पढ़ सकता हूँ, विशेषज्ञ नहीं)
- I've had some exposure to Python. (थोड़ा-बहुत)

आखिरी वाला किसी भी इंटरव्यू का सबसे उपयोगी वाक्य है: यह कमी को स्वीकार करता है और तुरंत सबसे करीबी असली चीज़ पेश करता है।
अंतराल और बदलाव
बिना माफ़ी माँगे संक्षेप में समझाएँ:
- I took a year out to travel.
- I was made redundant when the team was restructured. (कोई दोष नहीं जताया गया)
- I stepped back for family reasons, and I've been freelancing since.
- I wanted to move into something more technical.
एक वाक्य काफ़ी है। एक लंबा स्पष्टीकरण एक सामान्य अंतराल को समस्या जैसा दिखा देता है।
अपने जवाब को व्यवस्थित करना
ज़्यादातर इंटरव्यू लेने वाले उम्मीद करते हैं: अभी → तब → यहाँ क्यों।
At the moment I work as a data analyst at a logistics company, where I'm responsible for weekly reporting. Before that, I spent two years in customer support, which is where I first got interested in data. I've been looking for a role with more technical depth, which is why this position appealed to me.
मिश्रण पर ध्यान दें: अभी के लिए present simple, ख़त्म हो चुकी अवधियों के लिए past simple, जारी रहने वाले धागे के लिए present perfect।
"Tell me about yourself" कोई खुला सवाल नहीं है। इसका मतलब है: मुझे अपने पेशेवर अतीत के बारे में दो मिनट बताएँ, यह बताते हुए ख़त्म करें कि आप यहाँ क्यों बैठे हैं। यूनिवर्सिटी से शुरू करना, या आप कहाँ बड़े हुए इससे शुरू करना, इंटरव्यू के पहले दो मिनट गँवाने का सबसे आम तरीका है — इसके बजाय अभी से पीछे की ओर काम करें।
वही कहानी, दो बार
कमज़ोर: I worked in customer support. I was responsible for answering emails. Then I moved to data. Now I make reports.
मज़बूत: I'm a data analyst now — I own the weekly reporting for the logistics team. I came to it from customer support, where I was handling about 40 queries a day and started automating the reports nobody had time for. That's what got me into data, and it's why a role with more technical depth appealed to me.
वही करियर, अंग्रेज़ी का वही स्तर। दूसरे में एक मज़बूत क्रिया, एक संख्या, और एक धागा है जो पूरे वाक्य में चलता है।
