동료가 메시지 하나에서 follow up, push back, roll out, catch up, sign off를 다 쓰는데, 이 중 어느 것도 교재의 업무 어휘 챕터에는 없어요.
Call off the meeting은 평범한 구어체이고; the meeting has been cancelled는 글로 쓰는 버전이에요.
|---|---|---|
| set up | 잡다 | arrange, schedule |
| put off | 미루다 | postpone, defer |
| call off | 취소하다 | cancel |
| move up | 앞당기다 | bring forward |
| push back | 미루다 | delay, reschedule |
| run over | 시간을 초과하다 | overrun |
| kick off | 시작하다 | commence, begin |
| wrap up | 마무리하다 | conclude |
- Can we push the review back to Thursday?
- The demo ran over by twenty minutes, so we wrapped up early.
Push back에는 이의를 제기하다라는 두 번째 뜻도 있고, 이건 오직 맥락으로만 구별돼요: _She pushed back on the estimate_는 일정과는 무관해요.
|---|---|
| follow up (on) | 다시 다루다, 확인하다 |
| carry out | 수행하다 |
| take on | 맡다 |
| hand over | 넘겨주다 |
| look into | 조사하다 |

| scale back | 축소하다 |
- I'll look into it and follow up tomorrow.
- We're rolling the feature out to ten percent of users first.
가장 조심해야 할 건 「follow up」이에요 — 동사로는 두 단어이고(I'll follow up), 명사나 수식어로는 하이픈이 붙어요(a follow-up email).

Come across as — 인상을 남기다. He came across as very organised.
Get up to speed — 상황을 파악하다. It took me two weeks to get up to speed on the codebase.
We had to call off Tuesday's session because the client pushed the deadline back. I'll set something up for next week and follow up with the notes.
Tuesday's session has been cancelled, as the deadline has been deferred. I will schedule an alternative for next week and share the notes afterwards.
