Comparatives اور Superlatives: Bigger, Biggest, More Interesting

موازنہ کرنا A2 سطح پر سب سے کارآمد چیزوں میں سے ایک ہے، اور انگریزی اسے لفظ کی لمبائی کے حساب سے دو الگ طریقوں سے کرتی ہے۔ Superlatives ہمیشہ the بھی لیتے ہیں — یہ حصہ کبھی نہیں بدلتا۔

اردو میں موازنہ «سے» کے ساتھ ہوتا ہے («یہ اُس سے سستا ہے») اور سب سے اونچا درجہ «سب سے» سے («سب سے سستا»)۔ انگریزی میں «سے» کی جگہ than آتا ہے — اور صفت خود شکل بدلتی ہے۔

چھوٹی صفات: -er / -est جوڑیں

ہجے: کسی چھوٹے حرفِ علّت کے بعد آخری حرفِ صحیح کو دوگنا کریں (big → bigger)؛ y، i بن جاتا ہے (easy → easier)؛ خاموش e صرف -r جوڑتا ہے (nice → nicer)۔

لمبی صفات: more / most

دو یا زیادہ syllable (ان کے علاوہ جو -y پر ختم ہوتے ہیں):

• expensive → more expensive → the most expensive
• interesting → more interesting → the most interesting

❌ more cheaper — دونوں کبھی ساتھ استعمال نہ کریں۔ ایک یا دوسرا۔

دو-syllable والا درمیانی حصہ

کچھ دو-syllable والی صفات دونوں شکلیں قبول کرتی ہیں، اور دونوں درست ہیں: وہ جو -y, -er, -ow, -le پر ختم ہوتی ہیں۔

• clever → cleverer یا more clever
• narrow → narrower یا more narrow
• simple → simpler یا more simple
• quiet → quieter یا more quiet

اگر آپ کسی اور دو-syllable والے لفظ کے بارے میں یقینی نہیں ہیں تو more زیادہ محفوظ انتخاب ہے — یہ کبھی گرامر کے لحاظ سے غلط نہیں ہوتا، بس کبھی کبھی کم خوبصورت ہوتا ہے۔

ظروف کا موازنہ بھی

ظروف بھی وہی منطق مانتے ہیں: چھوٹے -er لیتے ہیں، اور -ly والے more لیتے ہیں۔

• She runs faster than me. · He works harder than anyone.
• Please speak more slowly. · It happened more quickly than expected.

دھیان دیں well → better اور badly → worse: She sings better than I do.

Comparatives کے ساتھ than:

This one is cheaper than that one.

Superlatives کے ساتھ the:

It is the cheapest in the shop. ("of the shop" نہیں)

برابری کے لیے as … as:

Mine is as good as yours.

It isn't as expensive as I thought.

فرق کو درجہ دینے کے لیے much / a bit:

It's much better. / It's a bit colder today.

دیگر درجہ دینے والے الفاظ: far, slightly, a lot, no — It's far cheaper. · It's no better than the last one.

دوسری سمت میں جانا: less / the least۔ This one is less expensive. · It was the least useful part of the course.

وقت کے ساتھ تبدیلی: -er اور -er۔ The queue is getting longer and longer. · It's becoming more and more difficult.

جڑی ہوئی تبدیلی: the … the …. The more you practise, the easier it gets. · The sooner, the better.

Superlative + ever۔ It's the best film I've ever seen. · That was the worst meal we've ever had.

اور one of the کی بناوٹ پر دھیان دیں: یہ ایک جمع اسم لیتا ہے۔ It's one of the biggest cities in Europe. ("one of the biggest city" نہیں)

عام غلطیاں

❌ She is more taller than me. → ✅ She is taller than me. ❌ It is the most cheap. → ✅ It is the cheapest. ❌ He is more good at maths. → ✅ He is better at maths. ❌ It's the same like mine. → ✅ It's the same as mine.

دو فونز کا موازنہ کرنا

A: This one's a bit more expensive, but the camera's much better.

B: Is it? The other one has a bigger screen, and it's one of the lightest they make.

A: True. The more I look at it, the harder it gets to choose.

B: Then take the cheaper one — it isn't as good, but it's good enough.
