1. Hit the ground running

The new manager hit the ground running — she reorganized the whole team in her first week.

2. Bite the bullet

I hate confrontation, but I had to bite the bullet and tell him the truth.

3. Under the weather

I'm feeling a bit under the weather today — I might leave early.

4. On the same page

Before we start the project, let's make sure we're all on the same page.

5. Cut corners

The contractor cut corners, and the roof started leaking within a year.

6. Break the ice

He told a joke to break the ice before the presentation.

7. Get the ball rolling

Let's get the ball rolling on the new project this week.

8. Miss the boat

I wanted to apply for that job, but I missed the boat — the deadline already passed.

9. Back to the drawing board

The client rejected the design, so it's back to the drawing board.

10. Call it a day

We've made good progress — let's call it a day.

on the same page under the weather
back to the drawing board bite the bullet
get the ball rolling miss the boat

Sorry, what does "bite the bullet" mean here?

  • ✅ break the ice · ❌ break the frost
  • ✅ miss the boat · ❌ miss the ship
  • ✅ call it a day · ❌ call it a night(这个说法确实存在,但意思是「去睡觉」)

不过动词部分依然按常规变化——she hit the ground running,we're cutting corners——只有其余部分保持不变。

  • 在正式报告和学术文本中——应该写 the project will restart,而不是 back to the drawing board。

A: Before we start — are we all on the same page about the deadline?

B: I thought so, but the client's changed the spec again.

A: So it's back to the drawing board.

B: Partly. We could cut a few corners on the reporting, but I'd rather bite the bullet and tell them it'll take another month.

A: Agreed. Let's get the ball rolling on that today.
