- Turn off the light.
- Turn the light off.
- Turn it off.
- ❌ Turn off it.
- She turned down the offer.
- She turned the offer down.
如果宾语很长,最好不要把动词拆开——She turned down the offer they made last Tuesday——否则小品词会离它所属的动词太远。
- ✅ I ran into an old friend.
- ❌ I ran an old friend into.
Look after、get on with、run into、look for、deal with、care for——这些动词永远不能拆开,哪怕宾语是代词也不例外:I ran into him,而不是「I ran him into」。
- The car broke down. · She grew up in Rome. · Please sit down.
Break down 和 grow up 根本不接宾语。
- ✅ Turn it off. ❌ Turn off it.
- ✅ Pick them up. ❌ Pick up them.
- ✅ Throw it away. ❌ Throw away it.
|---|---|---|
| 名词(the light) | ✅ turn the light off | ✅ turn off the light |
| 代词(it) | ✅ turn it off | ❌ turn off it |
带两个小品词的短语动词——get on with、look forward to、run out of、put up with、catch up on——永远不可拆分。
- I'm looking forward to it. · I can't put up with them.

A: What should I do with these old magazines?
B: Throw them away. Actually — hold on, I'll look through them first.
A: And the heater? It's still on.
B: Turn it off, yes. And if you find the forms on the table, could you fill them in?
请注意:throw them away 和 fill them in 可以拆开,而 look through them 不能。
