খাবার, রান্না আর বাইরে খাওয়া
খাওয়ার জন্য কেনাকাটা, মেনু পড়া আর খাবার অর্ডার করার জন্য দরকারি ইংরেজি — গণনাযোগ্য আর অগণনাযোগ্য ফাঁদসহ।
খাবারের শব্দভাণ্ডার A2 স্তরে সবচেয়ে তাড়াতাড়ি কাজে লাগে এমন দলগুলোর একটি, আর এর সঙ্গে একটি ব্যাকরণের সমস্যা জড়িয়ে আছে, তাই দুটো একসঙ্গে শেখা ভালো।
গণনাযোগ্য নাকি অগণনাযোগ্য?

কোনো অগণনাযোগ্য খাবারের পরিমাণের জন্য, কোনো পাত্র বা একক ব্যবহার করুন:
- a bottle of water, a glass of juice, a cup of tea
- a slice of bread / cake, a piece of cheese
- a kilo of rice, a packet of pasta
- a tin of tomatoes, a jar of jam, a bar of chocolate
দুটি যা পালা বদলে দেয়: কোনো ক্যাফেতে two coffees অর্ডার করুন (দুই কাপ), আর a chicken পুরো পাখি যেখানে chicken মাংস।
রান্নার ক্রিয়া
- boil — গরম পানিতে (pasta, eggs)
- fry — প্যানে তেলে
- bake — ওভেনে (bread, cakes)
- roast — ওভেনে (meat, vegetables)
- grill — সরাসরি আঁচের নিচে বা ওপরে
- chop / slice — টুকরোয় কাটা / পাতলা চ্যাপ্টা টুকরোয়
- stir / mix / pour / peel — কোনো রেসিপির ছোট ক্রিয়া
I usually fry an egg and boil some rice.
খেয়াল করুন রেসিপি আদেশবাচক-এ লেখা হয়: Peel the potatoes. Add the eggs and stir for two minutes.

অর্ডার করা

"I'll have…" অর্ডার করার মানক, স্বাভাবিক উপায়। I want the soup ব্যাকরণগতভাবে ঠিক কিন্তু ইংরেজি কানে রূঢ় শোনায়।

স্বাদ বর্ণনা করা
sweet, salty, spicy, sour, bitter, fresh, rich, tasty
This soup is a bit too salty. The sauce is quite spicy.
আর ভদ্র অভিযোগ, যা ইংরেজিতে ইচ্ছা করে কম বলা হয়: I'm sorry, but I think this is a bit undercooked. · Excuse me, this isn't quite what I ordered.
গণনাযোগ্য নিয়মটি শব্দ নিয়ে, খাবার নিয়ে নয়। Bread অগণনাযোগ্য আর a sandwich গণনাযোগ্য, যদিও দুটোই আলাদা আকারে একই উপাদান। এখানে যুক্তি বের করার মতো কিছুই নেই — বিশেষ্যটি নিজেই নিজের আচরণ বহন করে, তাই খাবার আর তার পরিমাণের শব্দটিকে একটি জোড়ার মতো শিখুন: a slice of bread, two eggs।
