Birçok dilde edat alsa da, İngilizcede hiç edat almayan fiillere dikkat edin:

Hareket ve konum

Hareket genellikle to, into veya onto gerektirir; konum in, at veya on kullanır.

• I went to the office. / I was at the office.
• She walked into the room. / She was in the room.

İki fiil bunu bozar: arrive, asla to değil, at/in alır, ve get, to alır — I arrived at the airport · I got to the airport.

Ulaşım

Ulaşım şekli için by, belirli araç için on / in:

• by car, by train, by bus, by plane — ama on the train, in the car, ve on foot (asla "by foot" değil).
