Appointment, Booking ও Reservation করা

Booking একটি ছোট, খুব অনুমানযোগ্য আদান-প্রদান। এর কাঠামো একবার শিখে নিন আর এটি restaurants, hotels, সেলুন আর মিটিং — সব জায়গায় একই রকম কাজ করে।

I'd like to book a table, please.

For four people, on Friday at eight.

The name's Cooper.

So that's Friday the ninth at eight, for four. Lovely, thank you.

ধাপ ৪-টিই শেখা মানুষজন বাদ দেন, আর এটিই সমস্যা আটকায়। বিবরণটি পুনরাবৃত্তি করে শুনুন।

Book, reserve নাকি make?

• book — রোজকার শব্দ: book a table · book a room · book a flight
• reserve — একটু বেশি আনুষ্ঠানিক, একই অর্থ
• make an appointment — কোনো ব্যক্তির সঙ্গে কোনো সেবার জন্য: doctor, dentist, hairdresser
• arrange a meeting — কাজের জন্য

আপনি একটি table book করেন কিন্তু একটি appointment make করেন। দুটোই নির্দিষ্ট।

Restaurant

• Do you have a table for two at seven?
• I'm afraid we're fully booked at seven. Would half past do?
• Could we have a table by the window / outside?
• It's for a birthday.

Hotel

• Do you have any rooms available for the 3rd?
• A double, for two nights.
• Is breakfast included?
• What time is check-in / check-out?
• Is there parking?

কোনো ব্যক্তির সঙ্গে appointment

• I'd like to make an appointment with Dr Shah.
• How soon could I be seen?
• Do you have anything first thing / after five?
• How long does it take? · How much is it?
• Is it the same price with a different stylist?

দুটো কাজের সময়-বাক্যাংশ: first thing (সকালে তাড়াতাড়ি) আর last thing (দিনের শেষে)।

কাজে একটি মিটিং ঠিক করা

কাজের booking-এর জন্য আগে উপলব্ধতার এক দফা দরকার:

• Are you free on Thursday morning?
• Does Tuesday at two work for you?
• I'm free any time after eleven.
• Shall we say ten, then?
• I'll send an invite.

যদি উত্তর না হয়: Thursday's no good, I'm afraid — would Friday work?

যখন তারা আপনাকে সময় দিতে পারে না

• We're fully booked, I'm afraid. → Is there a waiting list?
• Nothing until the 14th. → Could you let me know if anything comes up?
• Would you consider an earlier time?

বদলানো বা বাতিল করা

এখানেই বিনয় সবচেয়ে বেশি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ, কারণ আপনি অসুবিধা বাধাচ্ছেন।

• I'd like to change my booking, if that's possible.
• Could we move it to Thursday instead?
• I'm afraid I need to cancel.
• I'm sorry for the short notice.
• Is there a cancellation fee?

কম নোটিশের জন্য ক্ষমা চান। স্বীকার না করেই বাতিল করা ইংরেজিতে অমনোযোগী হিসেবে পড়ে, যদিও তা করার আপনার অধিকার থাকে।

যে বাক্যাংশগুলো তারা ব্যবহার করবে

• Bear with me a moment. (দয়া করে অপেক্ষা করুন)
• Can I take your name?
• We're fully booked.
• That's all confirmed.
• You should get a confirmation email.
• Under what name?
• We'll need a card to hold the booking.

ফোন রাখার আগে জোরে নিশ্চিত করুন। So that's Friday the ninth, eight o'clock, four people, under Cooper? কোনো booking-এর প্রতিটি বিবরণ একটি সংখ্যা বা একটি নাম — ঠিক যেটি অন্য ভাষায় ভুল শোনা যায় — আর অন্যপ্রান্তের মানুষটি এই যাচাইয়ের আশা করেন, এটিকে অদ্ভুত ভাবেন না।

Booking করা, তারপর তা বদলানো

A: Good afternoon, Bella's.

B: Hello — could I book a table for four on Friday at eight?

A: Bear with me… I'm afraid we're fully booked at eight. Would half past do?

B: Half past is fine. The name's Cooper.

A: Lovely. That's Friday the ninth, half eight, table for four.

B: Perfect, thank you.
