खाना, खाना पकाउने र बाहिर खाने

खानाको शब्दावली A2 तहको सबैभन्दा तुरुन्त काम लाग्ने समूहमध्ये एक हो, र यससँग एउटा व्याकरणको समस्या जोडिएको छ, त्यसैले दुवैलाई सँगै सिक्नु राम्रो।

Countable कि Uncountable?

How many eggs? तर How much bread?

कुनै uncountable खाना को मात्राका लागि, कुनै भाँडो वा एकाइ प्रयोग गर्नुहोस्:

• a bottle of water, a glass of juice, a cup of tea
• a slice of bread / cake, a piece of cheese
• a kilo of rice, a packet of pasta
• a tin of tomatoes, a jar of jam, a bar of chocolate

दुईवटा जसले पक्ष बदल्छन्: café मा two coffees अर्डर गर्नुहोस् (दुई कप), र a chicken पूरा चरा हो जबकि chicken मासु हो।

खाना पकाउने क्रिया

• boil — तातो पानीमा (pasta, eggs)
• fry — तावा वा कराइमा तेलमा
• bake — oven मा (bread, cakes)
• roast — oven मा (meat, vegetables)
• grill — सिधा आगोको मुनि वा माथि
• chop / slice — टुक्रा-टुक्रा काट्नु / पातला चेप्टा टुक्रामा
• stir / mix / pour / peel — कुनै recipe का साना क्रिया

I usually fry an egg and boil some rice.

ध्यान दिनुहोस्, recipe imperative मा लेखिन्छ: Peel the potatoes. Add the eggs and stir for two minutes.

Menu पढ्ने

Menu को शब्द	अर्थ
starter	सानो पहिलो खाना
main course	ठूलो खाना
side	सानो अतिरिक्त खाना
dessert	अन्त्यमा मीठो खाना
the bill	तपाईंले तिर्ने रकम (US: the check)

अरू देख्न सकिने कुरा: the specials (आजका अतिरिक्त परिकार), service charge (पहिल्यै जोडिएको एउटा टिप), set menu (तय मूल्यमा तय विकल्प), still or sparkling (बुलबुले नभएको वा बुलबुले भएको पानी)।

अर्डर गर्ने

• Could I have the soup, please?
• I'll have the chicken.
• Does it come with rice?
• I'm allergic to nuts.
• I'm vegetarian — I don't eat meat.
• Could we have the bill, please?

"I'll have…" अर्डर गर्ने मानक, स्वाभाविक तरिका हो। I want the soup व्याकरणका हिसाबले ठीक छ तर अंग्रेजी कानलाई रुखो सुनिन्छ। नेपालीमा 'मलाई सुप चाहियो / दिनुहोस्' स्वाभाविक छ, तर अंग्रेजीमा 'I want' रुखो सुनिन्छ।

Waiter ले के भन्न सक्छन्

तपाईंले सुन्नुहुनेछ	अर्थ हो

टेबल बुक गर्ने

स्वाद बताउने

sweet, salty, spicy, sour, bitter, fresh, rich, tasty

This soup is a bit too salty. The sauce is quite spicy.

र शिष्ट गुनासो, जुन अंग्रेजीमा जानाजानी कम गरेर भनिन्छ: I'm sorry, but I think this is a bit undercooked. · Excuse me, this isn't quite what I ordered.

Countable को नियम शब्दबारे हो, खानाबारे होइन। Bread uncountable हो र a sandwich countable हो, दुवै फरक आकारमा उही सामग्री भए पनि। यहाँ तर्क निकाल्न लायक केही छैन — संज्ञाले आफ्नो व्यवहार आफैँ बोक्छ, त्यसैले खाना र त्यसको मात्राको शब्दलाई एउटा जोडाका रूपमा सिक्नुहोस्: a slice of bread, two eggs।

सुरुदेखि अन्त्यसम्म बाहिर खाने

A: Are you ready to order?

B: Yes — I'll have the soup to start, and the chicken. Does it come with rice?

A: It comes with potatoes, but I can change that. Anything to drink?

B: A glass of the red, please. And still water for the table.

A: Of course. Any allergies I should know about?
